One of my favorite tours at KAUST was to the greenhouse. The greenhouse has several experiments going on to conduct research on plants. The greenhouse was separated into several rooms that included barley, tomatoes, wheat, and rice.

Tomatoes growing in the greenhouse with intricate vines. There is one experiment that is trying to see if tomatoes can be grown using sea water.

The plants are covered with little bags to prevent cross breeding.

Date palms are a very important plant in Saudi Arabia and the plant supplies many dates and resources that can be used for various things.
FUN FACT: If the plant were to pollinate with its “sibling” plant, it will lead to a plant, but a sterile one.
